How CASPer Fits Into McGill Medicine Admissions

McGill requires CASPer for both MDCM and Med-P applicants, and it counts for 20% of the published pre-interview score. For fall 2027, McGill lists separate final dates and codes for English and French tests. A missing eligible result cancels the application, while an old result cannot be reused from the previous cycle.

Does McGill Medicine require CASPer?

Yes. McGill states that all applicants to the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences MDCM program and the Med-P Qualifying Year must complete CASPer before their application deadline. The requirement is not optional and does not disappear for an applicant with a strong academic record.

McGill's consequence is explicit: an applicant who has not completed a test designated for fall 2027 Undergraduate Medicine by the deadline will have the application cancelled. Registering for an unapproved late test does not make it eligible without written authorization from Acuity for an exceptional situation.

MDCM vs Med-P CASPer dates and codes

These are the last possible dates McGill currently accepts, not ideal booking targets. The MDCM application deadline is November 1, while the Med-P deadline is March 1. McGill says it receives results in approximately three weeks. An earlier eligible sitting creates more room to resolve identity, payment, equipment, or distribution problems.

How do you register and distribute the result?

1. Open the current McGill CASPer page and confirm MDCM or Med-P.
2. Choose English or French after checking every other school's language rules.
3. Create or sign in to your Acuity account and select the fall 2027 cycle.
4. Match CSP-10211 in English or CSP-20200F in French.
5. Select an eligible test date for the correct McGill program.
6. Add McGill University for distribution before the posted deadline.
7. Save the reservation and distribution confirmation.

McGill says you do not need a McGill ID to take the test. You do need government-issued photo identification, a valid email address, and a supported computer with a webcam, microphone, and reliable connection. How much is CASPer worth at McGill?

McGill publishes a clear pre-interview formula: 70% academic context + 20% CASPer + 10% curriculum vitae. Top-ranked candidates are invited to interview. This makes CASPer a meaningful weighted component, not merely a completed/not-completed box.

The formula does not reveal the raw score conversion, distribution, or applicant pool for a given year. It also does not mean that a one-quartile change translates to exactly five percentage points. The applicant- facing quartile and McGill's internal weighted score are not the same measurement.

What quartile does McGill require?

McGill does not publish a minimum applicant quartile on its current CASPer page. Its 20% weighting should not be rewritten as a third- or fourth-quartile cutoff. A quartile describes broad relative performance; it cannot reveal your precise McGill pre-interview score or the ranking of the rest of the pool.

Forum posts can show that applicants worry about the interaction between academics and CASPer, but they cannot establish a guarantee. Use the scoring and quartile guideto interpret your result without inventing a McGill threshold.

Can strong academics offset CASPer?

Academic context is the largest published component at 70%, so it has more weight than CASPer. But “offset” is too strong: the three components form one pre-interview ranking, and McGill does not publish a combination that guarantees an interview. The practical conclusion is to submit the strongest accurate academic and CV record you can while preparing for the full CASPer requirement.

Should you take CASPer in English or French?

McGill allows MDCM and Med-P applicants to take CASPer in either English or French. The test language does not need to match the application language or interview preference. Choose the language in which you can reason and communicate most naturally under short timers, but first check whether another destination on your list accepts that language.

McGill also notes that applicants sending to programs that accept both languages must choose which result to distribute, and that choice cannot be changed after seeing quartile results. Language is therefore a planning decision, not a post-score optimization tactic.

Which CASPer format should you practise?

Use Acuity's live documentation and official practice test as the format authority. Its March 2026 guidance describes 11 scenarios: four video- response scenarios followed by seven typed-response scenarios. Each has two questions. Video answers allow one minute each, while two typed questions share 3.5 minutes. The estimated total is 65–85 minutes with optional breaks.

McGill's page still contains an older description of three questions in five minutes. That does not change McGill's authority over codes, dates, weighting, and eligibility, but it should not be used to time a 2026–27 simulation. A preparation timeline for McGill applicants

A timed CASPer diagnostic can identify whether judgment, typed completion, or spoken delivery is the first bottleneck. Apply feedback to fresh scenarios instead of memorizing an answer that will not fit a new prompt.
