CASPer for Psychology Programs: 2027 Guide

CASPer is not required by every psychology program, but some Canadian graduate and doctoral routes now use it. Confirmed current examples include Adler Graduate Professional School's Master of Psychology and Doctor of Psychology admissions and the Universite de Sherbrooke's D.Ps. and Ph.D.-RI psychology admissions.

Which psychology programs require CASPer for 2027?

The table below includes only requirements we could verify on current official program pages. It is not a claim that these are the only psychology programs using CASPer worldwide. Requirements can change between intakes, and a university can apply different rules to its master's, doctoral, clinical, research, or professional routes.

Check programs that are not in this table directly. Do not take CASPer simply because a similarly named degree elsewhere requires it. If a program does require the test, the CASPer registration guide explains how to match the correct type and recipient.

Adler MPsy and PsyD CASPer requirements

Adler's MPsy admissions process instructs applicants to book the Casper 2 assessment and recommends completing an official practice test. For Fall 2027, the admissions cycle opens September 1, 2026. The application form and final Casper 2 test date are both December 1, 2026, while supporting documents are due December 15.

For the MPsy Winter 2028 intake, Adler lists an April 1, 2027 application deadline, April 8 final Casper 2 date, and April 15 supporting-document deadline. Adler's page labels this section Winter 2028 even though one line says the admissions cycle for “Winter 2027” opens January 4, 2027. Use the section heading and ask Adler to clarify any conflicting intake wording before you apply.

Adler's PsyD page lists November 5, 2026 as the final Casper 2 date for Fall 2027 and December 1 as the documentation deadline. It also says applicants need a Casper test date when submitting the application. The PsyD route separately requires transcripts, references, a statement of intent, a CV, and research-project or thesis information. CASPer is one component, not a replacement for the academic and professional file.

Sherbrooke psychology doctorate CASPer requirement

The Universite de Sherbrooke Department of Psychology lists CASPer as a new admission condition for its D.Ps. and Ph.D.-RI doctoral selection process. Its current page lists a February 1 application deadline and these 2027-selection test sittings:

• September 1 at 6:00 p.m.
• September 27 at 4:00 p.m.
• October 22 at 6:00 p.m.
• November 5 at 8:00 p.m.
• December 6 at 1:00 p.m.
• January 14 at 8:00 p.m.

Sherbrooke also says its actions for the 2027 selection process will be updated in fall 2026. Treat the dates above as a current planning snapshot, not a substitute for checking the live French-language admissions page and your Acuity account. Confirm the year, time zone, test language, and exact test type before booking.

What format should psychology applicants prepare for?

Acuity's standard 2026-27 format has 11 scenarios. The first four require video responses, with two questions and one minute per question. The next seven require typed responses, with two questions answered together in 3.5 minutes. Optional breaks separate parts of the test, and the typical total time is 65 to 85 minutes.

Test types are not interchangeable. Adler explicitly names Casper 2; other programs may use a different type or language. Always select the option linked to the exact program in Acuity's Dates and Fees flow. The current CASPer format guide covers the interface and timing in detail.

What skills does CASPer examine for psychology applicants?

CASPer presents interpersonal and professional scenarios rather than a psychology knowledge exam. Acuity says responses are anonymized and independently rated. Raters look at the quality of the judgment expressed in each response, while spelling and grammar are not the central focus.

Psychology applicants should be ready to show empathy without making unsupported diagnoses, gather missing information before deciding, protect privacy, recognize power differences, communicate boundaries, and choose proportionate next steps. Those are useful practice themes, not a claim that every psychology school applies one identical rubric.

A focused CASPer plan for psychology applicants

1. Complete Acuity's free practice first. Learn the live test interface and timing before using third-party practice.
2. Separate observation from inference. Say what the scenario shows, what you do not know, and what you would ask next.
3. Practise boundaries and privacy. Use scenarios involving dual relationships, confidential information, consent, supervision, and an impaired peer.
4. Train typed and spoken answers. Psychology coursework may build careful writing, but CASPer also requires concise one-minute video responses without a retake.
5. Review decisions, not vocabulary. A short, humane, workable plan beats an abstract answer filled with terminology.

Common psychology CASPer mistakes

• Assuming all psychology programs require it. Verify the exact degree, campus, stream, intake, and year.
• Using the MPsy date for PsyD. Adler's current Fall 2027 final test dates differ by program.
• Diagnosing a person in the scenario. Work from the facts provided and seek information instead of labelling motives or conditions.
• Ignoring test language or type. Confirm both in Acuity because results do not transfer across test types.
• Chasing a universal cutoff. The reviewed programs do not publish one guaranteed psychology CASPer threshold.
• Skipping video practice. Insight is not enough if the one-minute answer never reaches a clear action.
