What CASPer Score Do You Need for McMaster Medicine?

McMaster requires every Undergraduate MD applicant to complete CASPer, but it does not publish a minimum score, required quartile, or guaranteed interview threshold. For fall 2027 entry, the safe conclusion is simple: CASPer matters, a stronger performance helps, and nobody outside the admissions process can give you a verified McMaster cutoff.

Does McMaster have a CASPer cutoff?

No fixed CASPer cutoff appears in McMaster's current official requirements for fall 2027 admission. The page says all applicants must complete CASPer to be eligible and describes it as a complement to other screening tools. It does not say “third quartile minimum,” “fourth quartile required,” or publish an underlying-score threshold.

This distinction matters. Required completion means missing the test or distribution deadline can make you ineligible. A score cutoff would mean falling below a stated result automatically removes you. McMaster publishes the first rule, not the second.

Does McMaster require a fourth-quartile CASPer score?

McMaster does not state that fourth quartile is required. Fourth quartile means your performance fell in the highest broad quarter of the relevant comparison group, so it is reasonably viewed as a stronger result. It is not an acceptance guarantee, and the current official guide does not list first, second, or third quartile as an automatic rejection.

Online anecdotes can make “4Q for Mac” sound like a rule. They are observations from incomplete applicant profiles. GPA, MCAT CARS, applicant stream, graduate-degree consideration, and other selection information differ between people. An interview invite cannot reveal an exact hidden CASPer score or isolate its effect.

How much does McMaster weigh CASPer?

McMaster's current fall 2027 admissions page does not publish a percentage weight for CASPer. It says the assessment provides a read on personal and professional characteristics and complements the other tools used for applicant screening. The selection section says the school assesses academic performance, preparedness for medicine, and suitability, but it does not break those elements into public CASPer, GPA, and CARS percentages.

Historical formulas circulate in blogs and forums. They may describe an earlier cycle accurately, but McMaster says it reviews admissions policy annually and that previous requirements may not apply. For a current application, treating an old percentage as the 2027 formula would be an unsupported assumption.

What are McMaster's other MD requirements?

For fall 2027 admission, the official OMSAS guide lists a minimum overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on the 4.0 scale, at least three years of undergraduate degree-level coursework by May of entry, and a minimum MCAT Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills score of 123. McMaster says the other MCAT section scores are not considered.

Minimum eligibility and competitive standing are different. McMaster explicitly notes that a GPA well above 3.0 provides a better chance in a competitive pool. It does not publish an equivalent CASPer number applicants can use to calculate their odds.

Which CASPer test should McMaster applicants take?

The current OMSAS guide instructs McMaster MD applicants to reserve Casper 2 (CSP-10211)—Canadian Professional Health Sciencesand add McMaster University, Undergraduate Medicine, to the distribution list before its deadline. Use government-issued photo identification when registering.

What score does McMaster receive?

Acuity says typed and video responses are combined into one overall score and distributed directly to selected programs. Applicants do not receive that underlying score. They receive an applicant-facing quartile roughly four to five weeks after the test, while programs generally receive results in about two to three weeks.

That means “my McMaster CASPer score” can refer to two different things: the quartile you can see and the combined score the program receives. A quartile is a broad relative band. It cannot tell you whether you were near the bottom or top of that band, and it does not reveal McMaster's selection calculation.

When should you take CASPer for McMaster?

Choose one of the dates Acuity makes available for McMaster and leave enough time for score distribution. McMaster says those are the only available dates and that it will not make exceptions for applicants who cannot take the test during them. The OMSAS application deadline for this cycle is October 1, 2026 at 4:30 p.m. ET, but your valid test and distribution options must be confirmed in Acuity rather than inferred from the general application deadline.

How should you prepare for McMaster's CASPer requirement?

McMaster applicants take the same assigned test type as other applicants in that distribution group; there is no special McMaster-only answer framework. Prepare for the current 11-scenario format, practise both response modes, and focus on clear reasoning, perspective-taking, impartiality, communication, and practical action.

2. Use the two-week CASPer study plan to alternate typed and video drills.
3. Review why you chose an action, not only what you chose.
4. Use a timer: one minute per video answer and 3.5 minutes for both typed answers.
5. Finish with a full mock and repeat your weakest response mode.

An AI-generated projected quartile can help track practice trends, but it is not the score McMaster receives and is not calibrated by Acuity. Use it to find recurring gaps, not to declare that your application is safe.

What if your CASPer quartile is lower than expected?

Do not withdraw from McMaster solely because of an unofficial online cutoff. Acuity says CASPer is not pass/fail and that applicants should not let a quartile dissuade them from a program. McMaster does not publish a quartile exclusion rule. Submit every required item and let the admissions process evaluate the complete file.

You cannot retake the same CASPer test type within the same admissions cycle simply to improve the result. If you reapply in a later cycle, McMaster requires a new test because the score is valid for only one application cycle. Read the CASPer retake rules before making plans around a second sitting.

The honest target for McMaster

Aim to demonstrate the strongest authentic judgment you can, not to hit a fabricated cutoff. Fourth quartile is the strongest published applicant band, so it is a reasonable aspiration; it is not a McMaster requirement or promise.
