Which Western University Programs Require CASPer?

Western does not have one university-wide CASPer rule. Engineering, direct-entry Nursing, Dentistry, Teacher Education, Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy currently use CASPer. Western Medicine does not list it in the current requirements, and compressed Nursing routes state that it is not required.

“Not listed” means CASPer was absent from the official current requirements reviewed on August 24, 2026. It is more precise than claiming a permanent exemption. Requirements can change by cycle.

Does Western Medicine require CASPer?

CASPer is not listed in Western Schulich Medicine's current admission requirements or the current OMSAS Western guide. Applicants should not book CASPer solely for Western Medicine based on an old school list, another Schulich program, or a broad claim that all Canadian medical schools require it.

This is a good example of why the faculty and program matter. Schulich Dentistry currently requires CASPer, but Schulich Medicine does not list it. If you are applying to other medical schools as well, check the current medical-school CASPer listprogram by program.

Western Engineering: required for all OUAC applicants

Western Engineering requires every OUAC applicant in the 2026–27 cycle to complete Canada CASPer 1 (CSP-10200). Western says no offer will be given until the result arrives, results are received about three weeks after the sitting, and applicants may take the assessment once per cycle.

Western Nursing: the route changes the answer

Western's Senate policy makes CASPer mandatory for the Direct Entry 3.5-year BScN from September 2026 admission onward. It also says a missing assessment means the applicant will not be considered and a result is valid for one cycle.

The compressed-time-frame BScN is different. Western's FAQs say CASPer is not required for its Regular, RPN Stream A, or RPN Stream B. The Western Nursing CASPer guideincludes a route table and explains why no unverified test code or quartile cutoff should be copied from applicant threads.

Western Dentistry: Canada CASPer 2

Western Dentistry lists CASPer as an admission requirement and specifies Canada CASPer 2 (CSP-10211). Its current page says Snapshot and Duet are not required. Because accepted dates can be updated after a page is published, verify the live current-cycle sitting and distribution deadlines rather than relying on a copied date.

Teacher Education: a separate professional test type

Western's Faculty of Education requires CASPer for Teacher Education applicants and publishes code CSP-20209. This is another reason a generic “Western CASPer code” is unsafe: the Engineering, Dentistry, and Education codes differ.

Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology

Western's School of Communication Sciences and Disorders lists CASPer as part of the application for Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. Its current instructions identify CASPer 2 and CSP-10211. Applicants should still match the exact graduate program destination and current deadline in Acuity before completing the assessment.

Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy

The current ORPAS Western requirements include CASPer for Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy. Because ORPAS requirements and program destinations are cycle-specific, use the current OUAC/ORPAS guide as the admissions authority and the live Acuity account for the test type, accepted date, and distribution deadline.

Why one CASPer result may not cover your Western list

Acuity's current guidance separates tests by program category and says different test types are not interchangeable. A result can be valid for one admissions cycle and one test type without satisfying a second Western program. Engineering's Canada CASPer 1 is the clearest example: it should not be treated as equivalent to a CASPer 2 result required by professional health programs.

How to handle common mixed Western application lists

The number of applications is not the number of CASPer tests. What matters is the set of required test types, languages, and cycles. Map every program first, then group only destinations that Acuity and the programs confirm can receive the same result.

This grouping step prevents both common failures: taking an unnecessary test for a route that does not ask for one, and assuming one result will cover a second category that requires a separate assessment. Save the program-level answer from Acuity if the live listing is ambiguous.

What quartile does Western require?

There is no single Western University CASPer cutoff. Admissions are program-specific, and the sources reviewed do not publish one university- wide quartile or conversion formula. A quartile discussed for Engineering cannot be applied to Nursing, Dentistry, or a graduate rehabilitation program.

Final Western application check

1. Write the exact Western faculty, degree, and route.
2. Confirm whether CASPer appears in that program's current requirements.
3. Copy the test type and code from an official source or live listing.
4. Check whether another application requires a different CASPer type.
5. Record application, test, and distribution deadlines separately.
6. Select every correct program destination before its distribution deadline.
7. Save confirmations and recheck the file checklist after results are sent.
