Australian Teacher Education CASPer Format 2026–27

For the 2026–27 admissions cycle, Australian Teacher Education CASPer has eight scenarios: two video-response scenarios followed by six typed-response scenarios. Acuity estimates 45–65 minutes and provides one optional ten-minute break between those sections. This is the shorter format listed in Acuity’s current specification.

How many questions will you answer?

Each scenario contains two questions, so the shorter format produces sixteen responses. Four are recorded answers and twelve are typed answers. A scenario supplies the situation; each question asks you to reason about it from a particular angle.

What differs from the standard CASPer format?

The standard format has four video-response scenarios and seven typed scenarios, with two optional breaks. Australian Teacher Education has fewer scenarios and only the break between response modes. The response limits per question or pair stay the same. See the section-order guide if you are comparing both sequences.

A shorter sitting still requires practice in both modes. You cannot infer that you should spend less effort learning to speak clearly just because there are fewer video scenarios. Use your own practice results to decide where additional work is useful.

The eight-scenario specification applies to Australian undergraduate and postgraduate Teacher Education programs for this cycle. Do not extend that exception to every Australian applicant or to teacher education in another country.

Check the category before planning your sitting

Match your country, program, admissions cycle, and test type to the live Acuity listing and your university’s current admissions instructions. Acuity’s test-type guidance says Australian Teacher Education’s test-type name has not changed for 2026–27. The Casper 1 and Casper 2 renaming for Australian health-science categories should not be used to guess your education reservation.

This guide explains the format; it is not a list of universities that require CASPer. Requirements, dates, and deadlines depend on the particular course. Use the official Dates and Fees instructions to find your listing, then check the confirmation in your account.

A focused practice plan for the shorter format

Start with the official practice resources available through your Acuity account. Then use short exercises to identify whether your main difficulty is understanding a situation, organizing a spoken answer, or dividing a typed response window.

1. Practise a typed pair. Read both prompts and ensure each receives a direct answer. Review whether the second response adds the reasoning its question asks for.
2. Record a spoken pair. Answer one question at a time. Listen for whether you explained why you chose your action, rather than simply listing values.
3. Repeat the weaker mode. Choose one specific improvement for your next attempt, such as acknowledging an uncertainty or proposing a feasible next step.
4. Rehearse the sequence. Use the right number of scenarios for your category. Account for scenario material and transitions as well as response time.

Try an everyday judgment exercise

Original practice scenario: You help run a community workshop. A participant repeatedly interrupts others, saying their ideas are being ignored. Another volunteer wants to exclude the participant from the next session. You have noticed that the workshop discussion is often dominated by two confident speakers.

1. How would you respond to the volunteer’s suggestion, and why?
2. What changes could make the next discussion fairer to everyone?

A useful review asks whether you addressed both the disruptive behavior and the participation problem. You might acknowledge the interruptions, seek the participant’s perspective, and suggest clear turn-taking expectations. For the second question, propose a practical change such as giving each person an opportunity to contribute, then explain what it would improve.

Those are possible reasoning directions, not a model answer to memorize. Acuity explains that scenarios concern everyday situations and are not specific to the profession you are applying to. Practise judgment across varied settings instead of assuming you need specialist classroom knowledge.

Use the typed practice guide and video-response exercises to build fluency, while keeping your reservation’s format and instructions as the final reference.
