2026–27 question-count guide
How Many Questions Are on the CASPer Test? (2026–27)
The standard CASPer test has 22 questions across 11 scenarios: eight video-response questions and fourteen typed-response questions. Each scenario contains two questions. This total follows directly from Acuity Insights’ current format for the 2026–27 admissions cycle.
How the 22 CASPer questions break down
| Response mode | Scenarios | Questions | Answer window |
|---|---|---|---|
| Video | 4 | 8 | 60 seconds per question |
| Typed | 7 | 14 | 210 seconds per pair |
| Total | 11 | 22 | Two different response clocks |
Video questions arrive individually. Typed questions appear as a pair, so you choose how to divide their shared clock. Keep that distinction in mind when a practice resource advertises a set of “questions”: eight individual prompts are a different workload from eight complete scenarios.
For the full sequence, see our CASPer section-order and breaks timeline. The broader CASPer format guide explains the test structure.
What is the difference between a scenario and a question?
A scenario supplies the context; a question asks you to reason about that context. For example, imagine a teammate has missed a project deadline. One prompt might ask what you would do next. Another might ask how your approach would change if the teammate had a family emergency. Those are two questions about one situation, not two scenarios.
That distinction matters when you review your answers. Your first response might explain a sensible action but your second might miss the new information. Count and review both answers separately. This example is an original illustration of the distinction, not an official test question.
Also separate how the situation is presented from how you answer. Watching a scenario video does not by itself mean that your answer will be recorded. Follow the required response mode shown on screen; our typed versus video comparison explains the different constraints.
Why do older guides mention three questions?
The reduction took effect in 2025–26. Acuity reduced the test from fourteen scenarios to eleven, changed typed sets from three questions to two, and shortened their response window from five minutes to three and a half. The standard 2026–27 test continues that structure. Acuity’s change announcement documents the transition.
You can still use an older dilemma to practise reasoning. For timing practice, choose a coherent pair of prompts and use the current window. Label that as an adapted drill. Do not train yourself to expect a third typed question on every current scenario.
Are all 22 questions scored separately?
Yes: Acuity’s scoring guidance says each question receives its own score. The same rater reviews both answers within a scenario with access to its context. Ratings across the test contribute to the overall result, including both response modes.
The useful preparation lesson is to answer the particular prompt in front of you. A strong first answer does not explain the reasoning you omit from the second. Give each response a clear decision or position, a relevant reason, and the detail the question requests. Our CASPer scoring guide covers the wider evaluation process.
Use the question count to plan practice
Track your work as complete scenarios and individual answers. A short session of two typed scenarios means four answers to review. One spoken scenario means two recordings. This makes a study log more useful than simply recording “four questions done.”
- Choose a complete scenario with two related prompts.
- Attempt both under the appropriate response window.
- Review whether each answer addresses its own question.
- Pick one improvement, such as explaining the reason for an action, and apply it to a fresh scenario.
These are practice suggestions, not an official scoring checklist. Use Acuity’s free practice test to learn the actual interface, and use our free CASPer practice questions for additional answer review.
The Australian Teacher Education exception
For this category, Acuity lists two video-response scenarios and six typed-response scenarios: four recorded answers plus twelve typed answers, or 16 questions. The official format page gives an estimated duration of 45–65 minutes. Check your own reservation before using the standard test totals to plan your sitting.
