CASPer Test for Pharmacy School: The 2026-2027 PharmD Guide
Some pharmacy schools require the CASPer test, but there is no universal PharmD rule. One program may use CASPer as a major selection factor, another may ask for it only after provisional admission, and another may not use it at all. Your job is to verify each school, book the correct test, and prepare for judgment and communication rather than pharmacology trivia.
Do pharmacy schools require CASPer?

How to verify CASPer for every pharmacy school
Build a small requirement table before you register. For each PharmD program, capture the following six fields from the official admissions page:

How CASPer fits with PharmCAS

A complete PharmCAS application does not mean your CASPer requirement is complete. Likewise, sending a CASPer result does not submit your PharmCAS application. Track both in the same calendar.
What the pharmacy CASPer test looks like in 2026
Pharmacy applicants generally face the standard current CASPer format. It takes about 65-85 minutes and contains 11 scenarios in two response sections:

The scenarios do not test drug names, dosing, organic chemistry, pharmacokinetics, or clinical guidelines. Acuity explicitly says its sample scenarios are general and not specific to the program or profession. What is a good CASPer score for pharmacy school?
There is no universal passing score for pharmacy. Applicants see a quartile for the typed-response section, showing performance relative to other applicants in the relevant group. A fourth quartile is the strongest reported band; a first quartile is the lowest.
The admissions meaning depends on the program. Manitoba's published 25% weighting makes the score consequential. Another school may use CASPer as one piece of holistic review and publish no cutoff. Do not invent a target from a medical-school forum and assume it transfers to your PharmD program.

This is a profession-relevant practice drill, not a prediction of test content. The real test can use everyday scenarios unrelated to pharmacy.

You are volunteering at a busy community pharmacy. A customer becomes angry because a prescription is not ready and says they cannot miss another dose. A team member quietly tells you to say the medication is out of stock so the customer will leave.
Question 1
How would you respond?
I would not give information I know may be false. I would first acknowledge the customer's frustration and ask the supervising pharmacist to clarify the actual delay and whether missing a dose creates an urgent risk. I would communicate the confirmed facts in plain language and help identify a safe next step within my role, such as waiting for the pharmacist to discuss options. This protects trust and safety without blaming my teammate in front of the customer.

How would you address the team member?
Once the immediate concern is stable, I would speak with the team member privately. I would ask why they suggested that response, explain that inaccurate information can damage trust and delay care, and suggest a truthful script for future delays. If the behaviour continued or created a safety risk, I would document what occurred and raise it with the supervising pharmacist through the proper channel.

A two-week pharmacy CASPer prep plan
Days 1-2
Learn and benchmark
Review the official format. Complete two typed and two video scenarios without pausing, then label your bottleneck: analysis, structure, typing, or spoken delivery.
Days 3-5
Build the reasoning habit
Practice identifying stakeholders, missing information, a private first step, and a proportionate escalation. Review every answer for an explicit why.
Days 6-7
Train the clocks
Use 3.5 minutes for each typed pair and one minute per video answer. Protect time for both typed questions rather than perfecting the first.
Days 8-10
Expand scenario variety
Rotate workplace, school, friendship, equity, confidentiality, conflict, and personal-reflection prompts. Do not practice only pharmacy settings.
Days 11-12
Use feedback
Compare your decisions across scenarios. Fix recurring habits such as assuming facts, delaying action, over-escalating, or describing empathy without showing it.
Day 13
Full simulation
Complete the official practice test or a realistic longer set using your test-day computer, browser, microphone, camera, keyboard, and room.
Day 14
Light review
Review your checklist and two strong examples. Stop heavy practice early enough to sleep and arrive mentally fresh.

Pharmacy application timeline: where CASPer belongs
- Build the school list. Check official PharmD pages for the current cycle.
- Record the earliest CASPer deadline. Do not plan around the latest school on your list.
- Start accommodations early if needed. Acuity currently asks for a complete package at least four weeks before the test.
- Choose the correct test and programs. Follow the selection displayed in your Acuity account and the school's instructions.
- Prepare for two focused weeks. Move the test earlier if a last-date sitting leaves no recovery room for illness or technical trouble.
- Confirm completion and distribution. Track CASPer separately from PharmCAS until the school shows the requirement as received.

The bottom line for PharmD applicants
Verify first, then prepare. CASPer is not automatically required because a program uses PharmCAS, and it does not test pharmacy knowledge.
