Does UBC Require CASPer? UBC and BC Programs for 2027
UBC Medicine does not require CASPer. Its MD admission requirements list the MCAT, with a minimum total of 496 on a single exam, but no CASPer, and UBC Medicine does not appear on Acuity's 2026–27 list of medical schools using it. Three other UBC programs do require CASPer: the Vancouver BSN in nursing, the Master of Occupational Therapy and the Master of Physical Therapy. Several other British Columbia schools also use it.
Does UBC Medicine require CASPer?
No. UBC's MD admission requirements cover academic standing, prerequisites, the MCAT, citizenship and BC residency, with no CASPer requirement. The MCAT rule is strict: applicants must reach a total score of at least 496 on a single exam, or the application is deemed ineligible.
Acuity's Dates and Fees page for the 2026–27 cycle lists ten Canadian undergraduate medicine streams using CASPer, at Dalhousie, McGill, McMaster, Memorial, Queen's, Université de Montréal, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. UBC is not among them. If you are applying to UBC and to other Canadian schools, check our list of medical schools that require CASPer to see where you still need it.
UBC programs that require CASPer
| Program | CASPer? | Test type | Timing | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MD (Medicine) | No | Not applicable | Not applicable | UBC MD requirements |
| BSN (Nursing, Vancouver) | Yes | Canada Casper 1 (English) | Last day to sit: January 17, 2027 | MacIsaac School of Nursing |
| Master of Occupational Therapy | Yes | Casper 2 | Accepted sittings July 19 to December 1, 2026 | UBC OT Casper page |
| Master of Physical Therapy | Yes | Casper 2 | Any sitting listed for UBC MPT on Acuity this cycle | UBC MPT requirements |
Test types come from Acuity's Dates and Fees page. UBC programs not on Acuity's 2026–27 English list include Pharmacy, Dentistry, Midwifery, Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology, Dental Hygiene and Education. Requirements can change, so always confirm on the program's own admissions page.
UBC Nursing (Vancouver BSN)
The MacIsaac School of Nursing's application instructions list CASPer as step 3 and state that successful completion of the Casper test is mandatory for admission eligibility. Results are only valid for the year of application. Its key 2026–27 dates are:
- UBC initial online application: December 4, 2026
- BSN supplemental application: January 15, 2027, 11:59 pm PST
- CASPer completion (last day to sit): January 17, 2027
- Interim transcripts: January 31, 2027
On Acuity, UBC Vancouver Nursing appears under Canada Casper 1 (English), the undergraduate test type. Book early: a listed date is not a reserved seat, and Acuity recommends registering at least three days ahead. For nursing-specific preparation, see CASPer for nursing school.
UBC Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy
Occupational Therapy. UBC's MOT Casper page says all applicants must complete Casper 2 for Occupational Therapy, registering with their UBC student or applicant number. Accepted test dates run from July 19 to December 1, 2026, and tests taken after December 1 will not be accepted. Results do not appear in the application portal; if Acuity shows them as sent to UBC OT, the program will receive them.
Physical Therapy. UBC's MPT requirements say all applicants must complete Casper. The program accepts any Casper sitting explicitly listed for UBC MPT on the Acuity site, even after the application deadline, and results are valid only for the current cycle. Results will not show as “received” in the application; the program sees your score if you add it to your distribution list.
Both programs use Casper 2, so if you apply to both, one Casper 2 sitting can be sent to both, as long as you choose a date that meets OT's December 1 cut-off. For profession-specific tips, see CASPer for OT and PT programs and CASPer for physiotherapy.
Other British Columbia programs that use CASPer
Acuity's 2026–27 Dates and Fees page also lists these BC programs:
| School | Programs |
|---|---|
| British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) | Cardiovascular Perfusion; Diagnostic Medical Sonography; Cardiac Sonography advanced diploma; Magnetic Resonance Imaging |
| Simon Fraser University | Bachelor of Education, after degree |
| Vancouver Island University | Nursing (Option A); Dental Hygiene; Bachelor of Education (Year One/Three entry and post-baccalaureate) |
| Vancouver Community College | Nursing; Dental Hygiene |
| University of the Fraser Valley | BSN; BSN LPN Access |
| Thompson Rivers University | Nursing |
| Trinity Western University | Nursing |
| College of the Rockies, North Island College, Selkirk College | Nursing |
| Stenberg College | Psychiatric Nursing |
Nursing, dental hygiene and first-entry education programs use Canada Casper 1. After-degree education and the BCIT health-technology programs use Casper 2. If you apply to programs in both groups, you will need two tests. Teacher candidates can read CASPer for teacher education.
How to book the right test for UBC and BC programs
- Look up every program you are applying to on Acuity's Dates and Fees page and note its test type.
- Group programs by test type. Acuity's test-type guide says only programs that require the same test type can be selected together.
- Pick a date that meets the earliest program deadline in each group, such as OT's December 1, 2026.
- Register with the same name and email as your applications, and add each program to your distribution list.
