CASPer in Australia: Every Program That Requires It (2026–27)
In Australia, CASPer is used mainly by graduate-entry medicine, veterinary science, allied health and teacher education courses. For 2026–27, Acuity lists CASPer for medicine at Curtin, Notre Dame (Fremantle and Sydney) and Wollongong, dentistry at the University of Queensland, and vet, physiotherapy, psychology, speech pathology and audiology courses at several universities. The RACGP also uses it for GP training selection. Each course needs one of three Australian test types, and Australian scores cannot be sent to programs in other countries.
The Australian CASPer test types
Acuity's test-type guide renamed several Australian test types for 2026–27. Applicants to Australian undergraduate health sciences select Australia Casper 1, and applicants to postgraduate health sciences select Australia Casper 2. Specialist medical education and teacher education have their own test types, unchanged this cycle.
On Acuity's Dates and Fees page, these appear as Australia Casper 1 (CSP-10400), Australia Casper 2 (CSP-20400) and Specialist Medical Education (CSP-30401). Only programs with the same test type can share one sitting. Acuity's country article adds that Australian applicants are compared with other applicants to Australian programs, rated by Australian raters, and results cannot be sent to programs in another country.
Courses that use Australia Casper 1
| Course type | Schools listed |
|---|---|
| Undergraduate medicine | Curtin University |
| Undergraduate veterinary science | Adelaide University (Bachelor of Science, Veterinary Bioscience); Charles Sturt University; James Cook University; Murdoch University; University of Queensland; University of Sydney |
Curtin appears twice on Acuity's list: undergraduate medicine under Casper 1 and its MBBS under Casper 2. Check which entry pathway you are applying through before booking. For vet applicants, see CASPer for veterinary school.
Courses that use Australia Casper 2
| Course type | Schools listed |
|---|---|
| Postgraduate medicine | Curtin University (MBBS); University of Notre Dame Australia (Fremantle and Sydney); University of Wollongong (domestic and international) |
| Postgraduate dentistry | University of Queensland (Doctor of Dental Medicine) |
| Postgraduate veterinary science | University of Melbourne; University of Sydney |
| Postgraduate physiotherapy | Macquarie University; University of Melbourne (Doctor of Physiotherapy) |
| Postgraduate psychology | Adelaide University (Master of Psychology); Deakin University; Macquarie University (Master of Psychology) |
| Speech pathology | Macquarie University; University of Melbourne (Master of Speech Pathology) |
| Clinical audiology | University of Melbourne (Master of Clinical Audiology) |
| Counselling and psychotherapy | Adelaide University |
Acuity's list also includes a Master of Social Work category, but no schools were listed under it for 2026–27. If you are applying to several of these courses, one Australia Casper 2 sitting can be sent to all of them, as long as it meets each course's deadline. Related guides: physiotherapy, psychology and dental school.
CASPer for GP training (RACGP and AGPT)
The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners is listed under Specialist Medical Education (CSP-30401) for 2026–27. If you are applying for general practice training through the college, this is a different test type from the health-science tests above, so a Casper 2 sitting for a postgraduate course will not count. Check the RACGP's own selection information for timing.
The test content is still everyday situational judgment, not clinical knowledge. Our CaRMS CASPer guide covers a similar postgraduate use in Canada.
Teacher education in Australia
Australian undergraduate and postgraduate teacher education courses, for both domestic and international applicants, have their own test categories and a different format from the health-science test. See our Australian teacher education CASPer format guide for the structure and timing.
How Australian CASPer test dates work
Acuity's Australian dates article explains the cycle:
- Most Australian programs run a cycle from July to the following June, though this varies by course.
- Semester 1 intake test dates run from July to February, and mid-year entry dates from March to June.
- A test taken between July and February can be used for both Semester 1 and mid-year entry, because both fall in the same cycle.
- You must apply to at least one course before reserving, then select your courses and give any required identification numbers when you book.
The Dates and Fees page lets you display times in Australian Eastern Daylight Time, which helps avoid booking at the wrong hour. For the standard health-science format, see Acuity's format guide and our CASPer format breakdown.
CASPer vs UCAT ANZ and GAMSAT
Australian medical and dental courses commonly use UCAT ANZ for school-leaver entry and GAMSAT for graduate entry. Those are cognitive aptitude tests, while CASPer is an open-response situational judgment test that is rated by people. They are not interchangeable: a course that lists CASPer as well as UCAT or GAMSAT needs both. Check each course's admissions page for its full list of requirements.
Preparation is also different. For CASPer, the main skills are making a clear decision under time pressure, considering the people involved and explaining your reasoning. Our two-week CASPer study plan shows how to fit it around other test preparation.
