CASPer Practice Test With Scores: How CasperCoach Rates Answers

Updated By Mahad Farooq · Founder, CasperCoach

Acuity's official CASPer practice test shows you the interface and timing but gives no score or feedback. CasperCoach fills that gap for practice: every answer gets a strict 1-to-5 rating with written strengths, improvements and suggestions, and a full session ends with a projected quartile. This page explains exactly how those numbers are produced and why they are a training signal, not a prediction of your real result.

Why the official CASPer practice test has no score

Acuity's preparation page says official practice responses are not saved or submitted for review. Real CASPer answers are scored by trained human raters and standardized against everyone else who took the same test, as its scoring explanation describes. A practice sitting has no pool and no raters, so there is nothing official to score it against.

That leaves a gap: you can rehearse the clock, but you cannot tell whether your reasoning is getting stronger. The official rehearsal is still the best way to learn the real interface; see our official practice test guide. Scored practice is for the separate job of improving the answers themselves.

The 1-to-5 rating rubric

Each question you answer in CasperCoach is rated on its own, matching the way CASPer scores each question separately. The AI evaluator is instructed to grade like a strict rater: most real answers are average, top scores are rare, and when in doubt it scores lower.

CasperCoach practice rating rubric
RatingWhat it means
5/5Exceptional and rare. Weighs several perspectives, names who is affected, takes a clear concrete action, and shows strong ethical reasoning and empathy.
4/5Strong, with at least one real gap. Awarded sparingly.
3/5Adequate. Answers the question but lacks depth, balance or specifics.
2/5Weak. Partly on topic, generic or missing key parts. A generic answer with no concrete action or stakeholders cannot score above this.
1/5Poor, off topic or a placeholder. Any one-word, empty or nonsense answer.

We made the rubric harsh on purpose. A practice tool that gives everyone 4s feels good but teaches nothing. A 3 here is a normal, adequate answer, and moving it to a 4 usually means adding the one thing it is missing, such as another person's perspective or a concrete first step.

An unanswered question is recorded as unanswered, with a reminder to use the time to state a decision and a reason, mirroring how a blank answer gives a real rater nothing to score.

What the written feedback covers

The rating comes with three short sections:

  • Strengths: only genuine ones. If an answer is weak, the feedback says so rather than inventing praise.
  • Areas for improvement: specific gaps, such as missing stakeholders, missing trade-offs, no concrete action, weak ethical reasoning, vagueness or going off topic.
  • Suggestions: concrete steps the answer should have included.

Those categories line up with what Acuity says raters assess: thought process, judgment and communication, judged on substance rather than grammar or spelling. For more on that, see what CASPer actually scores.

How the projected quartile works

When you finish a set of scenarios, CasperCoach averages your ratings and places the average into one of four bands. The bands are deliberately strict, so a projected Q4 needs an average of roughly 4.4 out of 5.

Average rating to projected quartile
Average rating (out of 5)Projected band
Below about 1.9Projected Q1
About 1.9 to 3.1Projected Q2
About 3.1 to 4.4Projected Q3
About 4.4 and aboveProjected Q4

Be clear about what this is. A real CASPer quartile compares you with thousands of other applicants on the same test. A projected quartile compares your average with a fixed scale. It cannot know how strong this year's pool is, so it is a way to summarize your practice, not a forecast of your result. Our z-score guide explains how real CASPer scores are standardized.

How video answers are rated

Video practice follows the current format: a 30-second reflection period, then up to 60 seconds to answer each question. Your recording is transcribed, and the rating is based on the content of the transcript. The evaluator is instructed not to judge your appearance, delivery or any transcription errors. The camera preview is optional; you can practise with a microphone only.

That means CasperCoach can tell you whether you made a clear decision and gave reasons in under a minute. It cannot coach eye contact or tone. Watching your own recording is the best check for those; our video-response practice guide has a self-review routine.

What a practice score cannot tell you

  • It is not official. CasperCoach is independent of Acuity Insights. Our ratings are not CASPer scores, and Acuity does not endorse any third-party preparation.
  • AI can be wrong. The evaluator follows a fixed rubric, but it can misread an answer or miss nuance a trained human would catch. If feedback seems off, compare it with the rubric yourself.
  • One rating is noisy. A single answer can swing a point either way. Trends across many scenarios are more meaningful than any one number.
  • Practice prompts are original. Our scenarios are written to match CASPer's style, not copied from real tests, so they cannot tell you what will appear on yours.
  • Results are per session. The results page shows scenarios completed in your current browser session, so note anything you want to track.

How to use your practice scores

  1. Start with a baseline. Do a few scenarios at the real timing: 3.5 minutes for two typed questions, as in Acuity's format guide.
  2. Find the repeating gap. Read the “areas for improvement” across answers. If “no concrete action” keeps appearing, that is your target.
  3. Fix one thing at a time. Rewrite one answer focusing only on that gap, then try a fresh scenario to see whether the fix transfers.
  4. Finish with a full mock. The full mock follows the standard structure of 4 video and 7 typed scenarios, so you can practise stamina and pacing before test day.

You can try 3 scenarios free without a card. Full access, including the full mock, is a one-time $49 for 90 days, with no subscription. For an honest look at whether that is worth it for you, read our CasperCoach review.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the official CASPer practice test give a score?+

No. Acuity says official practice responses are not saved or submitted for review, so there is no score or feedback. It is designed to familiarize you with the format and timing.

Is a CasperCoach projected quartile my real CASPer quartile?+

No. It bands your average practice rating on a fixed scale. Your real quartile compares your rated answers with the other applicants on the same test, which no practice tool can reproduce.

How strict is CasperCoach's rating?+

Deliberately strict. The evaluator is told most answers are average and to score lower when in doubt. A generic answer without a concrete action or the people involved cannot score above 2 out of 5.

Does CasperCoach rate my appearance in video practice?+

No. Video answers are transcribed and rated on content only. The evaluator is instructed not to judge appearance, delivery or transcription errors.

Can I practise CASPer with feedback for free?+

Yes. CasperCoach gives you 3 free practice scenarios with ratings and feedback, with no card required.
