How CasperCoach works
How to Use CasperCoach: A Step-by-Step CASPer Practice Plan
CasperCoach works best as a loop: answer a timed CASPer-style scenario, read the specific feedback, fix one weakness, and try a fresh scenario. This guide walks through each part of the platform, from your 3 free scenarios to typed and video practice, the full mock test and your results, and ends with a two-week plan you can follow before your test date.
Before you start: take the official practice test
Acuity's preparation page says its free official practice test, available once you reserve your CASPer, is the best way to become familiar with the format. Do it first. It shows you the real interface and timing, but it does not score your answers or give feedback. CasperCoach is built for the next job: improving the answers themselves. For a full comparison, see the official CASPer practice test guide.
You will also want a quiet space, a computer with a current browser, and a working microphone for video practice. A camera is optional.
Step 1: Use your 3 free scenarios well
Create an account and start practising. Your first 3 scenarios are free and fully rated, with no card required. Treat them as a diagnostic, not a warm-up:
- Answer them under the real timer, without pausing to plan at length.
- Write down the lowest rating and the main gap the feedback names, such as missing perspectives, no concrete action or a vague decision.
- Decide whether your problem is mostly time (unfinished answers) or substance (finished but thin answers). That decides what you practise next.
If the free scenarios show you only need a little polish, you may not need anything more. If they show a pattern, full access is $49 USD once for 90 days, with no subscription.
Step 2: Typed practice
In typed practice you read a scenario, then type answers to two questions on the same page in 3.5 minutes, matching the official typed format. Each answer then receives its own rating and tips.
Two habits make typed practice far more useful:
- Read both questions first. The second is often a follow-up that changes a fact. Budget roughly half the time for each. Our follow-up questions guide explains why.
- Rewrite one answer after feedback. Before starting a new scenario, spend two minutes rewriting your weaker answer with the missing piece added. This is where most of the improvement happens.
If you keep running out of time, try the free CASPer typing drills and read whether to use bullet points.
Step 3: Video practice
Video practice follows the spoken section: an optional 30-second reflection, then up to 60 seconds to answer each question aloud. You need to connect a microphone; say a few words and check that the level bars move, because permission alone does not confirm your voice is being picked up.
Only microphone audio is recorded and transcribed. The camera preview is optional and stays on your device, and feedback evaluates what you said, not how you look. That mirrors CASPer's focus on content, but it means delivery is up to you. Re-read your transcript after each answer: filler words, repeated phrases and unfinished sentences are easy to spot in writing. See CASPer video response practice and using the reflection period.
Step 4: Read the feedback properly
Each answer gets a rating from 1 to 5 plus three sections: genuine strengths, specific areas for improvement and concrete suggestions. The rubric is deliberately strict: a 3 is an adequate answer, and a generic answer without stakeholders or a concrete action cannot score above 2. Full details are in how CasperCoach rates answers.
| If feedback says… | Change this in your next answer |
|---|---|
| Missing perspectives | Name at least two people affected and what each needs. |
| No concrete action | Add one specific first step: who you speak to, when and what you say. |
| Vague or hedging | State your decision in the first sentence, then give reasons. |
| Weak ethical reasoning | Name the value at stake, such as safety, fairness or honesty, and why it outweighs the alternative. |
| Unfinished answer | Shorter context, faster decision; aim for a complete answer before adding detail. |
Focus on one change at a time. Trying to fix everything at once usually makes answers longer, not better.
Step 5: The full mock test
The full mock test follows the standard 2026–2027 structure: 4 spoken-response scenarios, then 7 typed-response scenarios, with timed answers, scheduled optional breaks and feedback at the end, including a projected quartile. An Australian Teacher Education profile (2 video, 6 typed) is also available.
Use the mock sparingly: once around a week before your test to measure stamina and pacing, and once a few days before to check that your recurring gaps have improved. Do it in one sitting, at the time of day you will test, with your phone away. If you need a reminder of the real test's length and breaks, see how long CASPer takes and CASPer breaks and section order.
Step 6: Track your results
Your dashboard shows your average and best practice ratings, your last scenario and a current focus. The results page shows the scenarios you completed in the current browser session; earlier sessions are not saved there, so keep a simple log of your own:
- date and mode (typed, video or mock);
- rating for each question;
- the one gap the feedback named; and
- whether that gap appeared again next time.
The projected quartile is a strict banding of your average practice rating, not a comparison with the real applicant pool. Watch the trend and the recurring gaps rather than any single number. Our practice-answer review guide has a fuller method.
A two-week CasperCoach plan
This plan assumes about 30 to 60 minutes a day. If you have more time, add scenarios on the targeted-practice days rather than extra mock tests.
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Take Acuity's official practice test to learn the interface. Then do your free CasperCoach scenarios and note the lowest-rated answer. |
| Days 2–4 | Two or three typed scenarios a day. After each, rewrite one answer using the feedback before moving on. |
| Day 5 | Video practice: three scenarios with the reflection period. Read the transcript, not just the rating. |
| Day 6 | Rest, or review your notes and list the two gaps that keep appearing. |
| Day 7 | First full mock test. Do it in one sitting at the time of day you will test. |
| Days 8–11 | Targeted practice on your two gaps: mix typed and video, two or three scenarios a day. |
| Day 12 | Second full mock test. Compare the average rating and the gaps with Day 7. |
| Day 13 | Light practice: one or two scenarios, then check your system setup for test day. |
| Day 14 | Test day. No new practice; warm up with one scenario read-through if it helps you settle. |
For a version that does not depend on any tool, see how to study for CASPer. If your test is in a few days, use last-minute CASPer tips instead.
What CasperCoach cannot do
- It cannot give you an official score. Real CASPer scores come from trained human raters and are standardized against your applicant pool.
- It is not a human coach. The AI evaluator follows a fixed rubric and can miss nuance. It cannot discuss your reasoning with you.
- It does not coach delivery. Video feedback is based on your transcript, so eye contact and pacing are up to your own review.
- It uses original scenarios. They are written in CASPer style, not copied from real tests, so do not try to memorise answers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is CasperCoach free?+
You can try 3 rated scenarios free with no card. Full access, including the full mock test, is $49 USD once for 90 days, with no subscription.
Do I need a webcam for CasperCoach video practice?+
No. You need a working microphone. The camera preview is optional and stays on your device; only microphone audio is recorded and transcribed.
How many mock tests should I take?+
One or two is usually enough: one about a week before your test and one a few days before. Spend the rest of your time on targeted scenarios and rewriting weak answers.
Does a projected Q4 in CasperCoach mean I will get a 4th quartile?+
No. The projected quartile bands your average practice rating on a strict rubric. Your official result compares you with the real applicant pool and cannot be predicted by any practice tool.
Where are my past results saved?+
The results page shows scenarios from your current browser session. Keep your own short log of ratings and recurring gaps if you want a longer history.
