College and Allied Health Programs That Require CASPer (Canada)
CASPer is not only for medical school. For the 2026–27 cycle, Acuity lists dozens of Canadian college and allied health programs that use it, including paramedic, respiratory therapy, sonography, MRI, medical laboratory, perfusion, midwifery and dental hygiene programs at schools such as SAIT, BCIT, the Michener Institute, Centennial and the College of the North Atlantic. Most of these programs use Casper 2; midwifery, dental hygiene and a few nursing and technology programs use Canada Casper 1.
Why college and allied health programs use CASPer
Allied health programs place students with patients early, often in high-pressure settings like ambulances or imaging suites. Acuity describes CASPer as a measure of interpersonal and professional skills such as communication, ethical judgment, empathy and collaboration. Programs use it alongside grades and prerequisites to see how applicants reason through everyday situations.
The test content does not change by profession. A paramedic applicant and a medical laboratory applicant answer the same kind of everyday scenarios, as described in what the CASPer test is. You do not need to know clinical procedures.

These appear under Casper 2 (CSP-10211) on Acuity's Dates and Fees page, the same test type used by Canadian medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, OT and PT. That means one Casper 2 sitting can be sent to, for example, a SAIT respiratory therapy program and a university physiotherapy program, as long as the date meets both deadlines. For university health programs on the same test, see physiotherapy and OT.
Programs that use Canada Casper 1
| Program | Schools listed |
|---|---|
| Midwifery | Mount Royal University; University of Manitoba (UQTR's sage-femme program uses the French test) |

Canada Casper 1 (CSP-10200) is the undergraduate health sciences test type. Acuity's test-type guide says Canadian undergraduate health sciences, teacher education and undergraduate engineering applicants select Canada Casper 1. Most university and college nursing programs also sit here; see CASPer for nursing school and the BC list in UBC and BC CASPer requirements.
Applying to midwifery in Quebec? UQTR's pratique sage-femme program is on the French list, so it needs the French test. See CASPer in French.
How to book the right test
- Search every program you are applying to on the Dates and Fees page and write down its test type and last accepted date.
- Group programs by test type. Only programs with the same test type can share a sitting.
- If you are applying to both groups, such as dental hygiene (Casper 1) and sonography (Casper 2), book two tests.
- Pick a date before the earliest deadline in each group and register at least three days ahead, as Acuity recommends.
Some programs list separate streams, such as domestic and international applicants or different intakes. Choose the stream that matches your application. Our CASPer 1 vs CASPer 2 guide and registration walkthrough cover the details.
How to prepare for CASPer as an allied health applicant
The format is the same as for university applicants. Acuity's format guide describes the standard test with video and typed sections, 1 minute per video question and 3.5 minutes for each pair of typed questions. A practical plan:
- Take the official practice test to learn the interface.
- Practise a few timed typed and video scenarios each week. Typing speed matters; see CASPer typing speed.
- Draw on your real experience: work, volunteering or caregiving. Reflection prompts reward specific examples; try the self-awareness practice set.
- Focus on clear decisions and reasons, not medical knowledge. Our answer structure guide shows how.
